Azure Electrical Ltd was appointed to deliver the electrical infrastructure required for a newly installed chiller unit at Thomas Tallis School.
The new chiller was positioned on the roof of the school, which meant the project required a safe, durable and well-planned cable route from the main intake room through to the roof plant location.
Our works included the installation of new 300mm heavy-gauge tray, a 70m run of 95mm 5-core SWA cable, a separate 50mm earth and a new GRP step to provide safe access over the tray work.
This project demonstrates Azure’s experience in delivering practical electrical installation works for education environments, where safety, access, coordination and long-term reliability are essential.
The project included:
Installation of new 300mm heavy-gauge cable tray
Tray route installed from the main intake room to the roof-mounted chiller location
70m of 95mm 5-core SWA cable installed for the new chiller power supply
Separate 50mm earth installed as part of the supply arrangement
Heavy-gauge tray mounted on new rubberised mounting feet
New GRP step installed to create a safe route over the tray work
Electrical infrastructure delivered to support the new roof plant installation
The works were completed with a focus on safe routing, durable containment and future maintainability.
The newly installed chiller required a reliable power supply capable of supporting the demands of the roof plant.
Azure installed a robust containment route using 300mm heavy-gauge tray, allowing the SWA cable and separate earth to be installed safely and securely across the required route.
Because the installation was located on the roof, careful attention was given to cable support, access, tray mounting and safe movement around the plant area.
The addition of the GRP step helped create a safer route over the tray work, reducing the need for staff or contractors to step directly across the containment.
For a school environment, mechanical plant such as chillers plays an important role in keeping the building comfortable and operational.
The electrical infrastructure behind that plant needs to be:
Safe
Durable
Properly supported
Suitable for the load
Accessible for future maintenance
Installed with the building environment in mind
This project was not simply about running a cable. It required a planned installation route, suitable containment, safe access over the tray and coordination with the new chiller unit on the roof.
Azure’s experience across electrical installation and education sector works meant the project could be delivered with the right balance of technical planning, site safety and practical installation detail.
School projects require a careful approach. Work must be planned around access, safety, building users and the long-term operation of the site.
At Thomas Tallis School, the installation supported essential building services while keeping the finished route clear, structured and maintainable.
Azure regularly supports education clients with electrical installation, compliance-led works, remedial works and planned maintenance.
Azure Electrical Ltd successfully installed the new electrical supply infrastructure for the school’s roof-mounted chiller unit.
The completed works provided:
A robust heavy-gauge containment route
A 70m SWA cable run from the main intake room to the chiller
Separate earthing provision
Safe roof tray mounting on rubberised feet
Improved access over the tray with a new GRP step
Electrical infrastructure ready to support the new chiller installation
This project highlights Azure’s capability in delivering commercial electrical installation works that support mechanical plant, education buildings and long-term site operation.
