Deal Low Water Treatment Works Electrical Installation

Project Overview

Azure Electrical Ltd was appointed by Rhames Ltd to complete the electrical package for a new chlorine filtration building at Deal Low Water Treatment Works.

The building forms part of the site’s potable water treatment process, housing equipment that supports the safe chlorination and treatment of drinking water before distribution. Thames Water explains that chlorine is used during the final treatment stage to remove remaining organisms and help keep drinking water safe as it travels through the network. Alongside the building services installation, Azure Electrical completed the electrical works associated with a new dirty water collection system, including power supplies, pump wiring and automatic water level controls.

Complete Electrical Installation

The project required a coordinated electrical installation capable of supporting both the building environment and the specialist process equipment operating within it.

Azure Electrical installed a new distribution board to supply the facility, together with dedicated circuits for process equipment, auxiliary systems and general electrical services.

The completed scope included:

• New electrical distribution board

• Power circuits for process and auxiliary equipment

• 13A socket outlets and fused connection units

• Dedicated supply for a 2.5kW electric heater

• Extract ventilation system and electrical connection

• Energy-efficient LED strip lighting

• Lighting controls and switching

• Intruder alarm system

• Door contacts and dual technology motion detectors

• Power and control cabling

• Final termination, testing and commissioning

Dirty Water Pumping and Level Controls

Azure Electrical also supplied, installed and wired the new dirty water pumps serving the below-ground collection tank.

Float switches were installed and commissioned to provide automatic pump control, maintaining the required operating water levels within the tank. The associated power and control cabling was terminated and tested to ensure dependable operation and effective wastewater management within the facility.

Delivery Within a Live Operational Site

All works were completed within a live Thames Water operational environment where water treatment activities continued throughout the programme.

This required close coordination with Rhames Ltd, Thames Water representatives and other contractors working across the site. Azure Electrical followed the relevant permit-to-work systems, environmental controls and site-specific health and safety procedures while maintaining progress against the agreed programme.

Our experience delivering commercial and infrastructure electrical services allowed the team to integrate safely with wider site operations while minimising disruption. Azure’s existing services include electrical installations, remedial works, compliance, testing and certification across commercial and public-sector environments.

Inspection, Testing and Compliance

The full electrical installation was inspected, tested and certified before handover.

Works were completed in accordance with applicable requirements, including:

• BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations

• Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

• Thames Water engineering and site standards

• Azure Electrical quality assurance procedures

BS 7671 is the UK national standard for electrical installations, while the Health and Safety Executive provides guidance on meeting duties under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Azure Electrical’s industry accreditations support its approach to electrical safety, competence, testing and professional project delivery.

The completed installation also provides power and automated controls for the site’s dirty water pumping system, supporting effective water level management within the below-ground collection tank.

Delivered safely and in line with the project programme, the works demonstrate Azure Electrical’s ability to complete specialist electrical installations within live water treatment, utility and critical infrastructure environments.
